This is the essay I had to write for my Bible class, telling about what I had learned this semester.
I learned many things in Bible this semester. But one thing that really stood out to me was imperfection. David and Solomon, despite being some of the greatest kings this world has ever seen, were only human. They made mistakes, and every now and then, actually learned from them.
It seems as if David was the patron saint of mistakes. As much as he relied and trusted on God, there were as many instances when he only relied on himself. It was at these times that he became the most vulnerable for temptation. It was when he fell prey to these temptations that he was at his worst. He would realize that he had messed up, but it would take him a very long time to confess to God what he had done. So he would spend months–even years– suffering in his guilt. But eventually he would be able to take it no longer and–usually at the prompting of one of God’s prophets– he would finally confess of whatever it was that he had done wrong. And usually, punishment or retribution would ensue.
To use the phrase “Like father, like son” to describe Solomon would be a major understatement. As much wisdom as Solomon possessed, he messed up just as much as his father, if not more. You would think that for someone as wise as Solomon, he would have a much better track record than his father. That is not the case. But Solomon would, just as his father did, eventually confess and get back on track with God.
If there is one thing that we can learn from these two men, is that not everyone is perfect, and we all make our mistakes. We should always learn from our mistakes, and confess as soon as we can, to keep ourselves from a guilty conscience, and to keep ourselves from drifting away from God. The last think we need is a chasm between us and our Creator.

YES!!!
My best friend Mikaela and I were both accepted for the Truth and Peace Leadership Conference! this is VERY exciting! July 9th can't come soon enough! FWBBC and Charleston, WV, here we come!!
Also it iced today. A bad ice storm is being forecasted for this weekend. It may possibly develop into heavy snow. We are all praying it goes the snow route instead of ice! the last thing we need is another ice storm...

Your two cents?
I just read the most interesting article in World magazine today. and honestly, i just about started crying. A recent study was done on the money that goes to Missions, and one average only TWO CENTS out of every dollar goes to missions. I think this is just heart breaking. What can we do to turn this around?? I honestly don't know but I would like to see how much of every Free Will Baptist's dollar goes to missions. I think the results would be interesting to see. here is a link to the article. (or at least the first few paragraphs)

way up yonder in the Smokies...

here i sit in a chair with a beautiful view of a mountain and bright red foliage to my left. its quite a sight. very refreshing. like sprite. oh yes.
Well we had the Missouri State Youth Conference at the Windermere retreat center this past friday and saturday. The speaker was a drama troupe called "Onetimeblind" the were AMAZING. eck yes. the musical guest this year was Pocket Full of Rocks. I've never been the biggest fan of theirs, but they were REALLY good live. They have such a passion. It was infectious. They really love the Lord, and its so contagious. It was just such a worishpful atmosphere. (forget using correct English) but sadly I had to leave saturday morning after breakfast to travel 11 hours in a car across the country with the parental units. ah what fun. actually i was probably the most annoying part. singing at the top of my lungs to the radio for 3 hours... (when i actually got control of the radio. Mannhiem Steamroller and Fox News talk radio is great! but after 9 hours of it straight...)
So we've just been chillin up here in Gatlinburg for the past week. i think we are leaving soon to go ride a cable car (hope we dont have a freak accident) up to Ober Gatlinburg. its a ski resort. even though there is no snow. but i digress. tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Which means stuffing. and even more stuffing. and thumbprint cookies. oh my.
well i must be off--haha--but here is a pic of me last night. I was drinking some WONDERFUL sweet tea from Taco Bell--of all places-- when i dumped it in my lap. baha this is so typical. enjoy.

took the History test today.
ended up getting a 102% out of a 105 possible...
(i missed one and got 5 points bonus for my wonderful reply to the essay question asking why "the Middle ages truly were the dark ages and two factors that helped bring about the Renaissance")
Its really amazing how God uses what at first glance may seem insignificant to bring about a great change. Consider this: in 1440, Gutenberg invented the movable type printing press. Now, that may not seem like a big deal, but before the invention of the movable type press, pages of books would have to be completely carved out of wood. When you were done with one page, you would carve out the next page. now i don't know about you but I think that would drive me to insanity... but I digress. Because of the invention of movable type, Bibles were able to be printed much faster and production costs were cheaper, and thus Bibles were made available to the common people. When the people started to read the Bible for themselves instead of relying on the pope they saw just how screwed up things were, which brought about the Renaissance, which revived an interest in learning, which also helped spread Protestantism and true Christianity. So whenever I think that I'm not making a difference, I just think about how God can use the smallest things to do His work. It may seem insignificant, but its not! :)

Veteran's Day
Today is Veteran's Day (Observed) (hence the fact I am off from school) and I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of the brave men and women that have fought to keep our freedom and our country safe. It means a LOT to me. Here's a special shout-out to my Grandpa Fry, who fought in Japan in World War II. Thank you so much!
Today I'm feeling kinda down. Maybe its just because yesterday didn't exactly go as I would have liked it to. But I guess things just happen the way they do for a reason so maybe it will all resolve itself within the coming week. I hope so. So today I'm just kinda in a "blah" mood. Its a good thing we don't have school today because I would have had to take a History test. And I never think straight when I'm down like this. (not that I ever think entirely straight, anyway) And the last thing I need is the guys that I'm competitive with over grades teasing me because I didn't get a 100, as I usually do. Although I'm glad to have some people to be competitive with. Competition always makes me work harder to achieve because I can't stand not being the best. Ah the joys of being a perfectionist and always trying to be perfect...

Long time...
My dad got home from Cote d'Ivoire last night! After a almost a week of being stuck there due to the Air France strikes. So my mom, another lady, and myself went to the St. Louis airport to get them. We didn't get home until about 12:30 last night. So my parents let me skip school today and sleep in. But I don't feel good today either, so its not like I'm just skipping school or anything. I have a stuffed up head and a sore throat. I'm still in my jammies. haha. I've been bored this morning so I've been photoshopping photos. I have no life. This is so sad.
I am so ready for Christmas. Not to mention its only 2 months until my birthday, 2 months and 1 day until I get my license, 2 weeks until Windermere and 2 weeks and 1 day til we go on Vacation! woot! lol...
well...
adios.

Is it REALLY ever my fault?
Don't you just hate it when people hold you accountable for things that you didn't do? Like when someone does something incredibly stupid (that they know they shouldn't do) and then blames it on the person next to them, who is consequently innocent? It just makes me mad.
anyway...i'll try not to start ranting. Its just been a crazy week.
My dad just left for Abidjan, Cote 'd Ivore, Africa. He'll be getting home on the 28th, but i still miss him. Im close to my parents so its always hard when my dad takes trips. especially ones overseas. but he is visiting Jerry and Carol Pinkerton, who are probably some of my favorite missionaries. i've always had a special bond with them. I'm just sad that I couldn't send them a package of fried dill pickle spears from Dowd's Catfish. Man, those things are the best ever.
well peace out. even though i believe that peace is not always the answer and sometimes conflict is necessary

its been a while since i've posted. a month and 2 days to be exact. um...i'm really too lazy to type all the stuff thats been going on so here is a video...
once again, i'm a dork.
aw rats. i cant upload it. its too large of a file....
i really should download video compression software...
well i was basically talking about school. so far i've made a few hundreds failed a quiz over Silas Marner, and almost failed an open book quiz. i'm really not sure how i managed to do that. like i said, i'm a dork. i also talked about Windermere. its in November. i cant wait. but i have to miss part of Saturday because we are going on vacation w/ the rest of the family to Gatlinburg. i SURE wouldn't want to miss that! haha. Piano is going pretty good right now. i guess my teacher sees potential. im glad she can, because i sure cant. i've been playing for 9 years and i still cant sight read. but i can play by ear rather well. ugh. i really should work on that. i'm hungry right now. just thought i'd throw that in. i've also developed an addiction to Starbuck's iced decaf carmel machiato (or however thats spelled.) too bad that addiction costs 3 bucks. man i'm broke. haha. i have a hard spelling list tomorrow. adequacies. itineraries. moneys. all hard words. i wish monkeys was a spelling word. for some reason i've always liked to spell that word. miscellaneous is a fun word to spell, too. so is pneumoniaultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. haha. the Tour de Missouri is coming though town tomorrow. its coming EXTREMELY close to our house, too. but sadly, i'll be at school. in a study hall. yay. haha. well i gotta get. trying to work things out so mikaela can spend the night tomorrow.
peace,
Katy

panama
panama was great. i can't even begin to describe it. all i know is that i feel like a completely different person. i guess 3 days with only the clothes on your back does that to you. i really don't care as much about all the things that used to consume me. hair. make up. clothes. i still like them, but i've realized that there is so much more to life than trying to look good. there i better things i can spend my time and money on. i know this sounds...not really cliche, but...i dont know. i'm just different. but i digress... we didn't have any luggage for 3 days because i flight to atlanta was about 3 hour late, due to circling around atlanta for an hour, and running out of fuel and having to hi-tail it to Alabama to get more. so when we finally did land in Atlanta, we had to literally run to our next flight, which Joe was stalling...so, long story short, our luggage didn't make it on our plane and ended up in Belgium or something. so talk about an interesting experience. we all stunk. but at least we stunk together...anyway, panama was amazing. i made some really great friends. both panamanian and american. and i love and miss them all. i was the lucky one on the trip. since i was in charge of "Web Development" or whatever, the majority of my mornings were spent in Stan's air conditioned office. It was nice. now if i only hadn't have had to use a mac! i also had a great Bible school group. they were all so sweet! i miss them so much. i just want to cry thinking about them.
school starts in 5 days. i'm really not excited. this summer has been soooo great. now if only my sophomore can live up to the summer. that would be great...but heres to my friends new and old! lol. i feel like its New Year's! lol.
In other news, i've gotten addicted to a band called Falling up. they are totally awesome. I love what their "sounds like" section on Myspace says
also check out the website that i worked some on for our panama trip. click here!
btw, we've had a lot more hits than what the counter says. i accidentally reset it at some point during the trip.

if you go to the ocean during the night, the voices of people far away can be heard clearly. You may wonder, is it because it is quieter at night than in the daytime? However, it is only one of the reasons. Actually, sound transmits farther at night may be related to refraction of sound waves! First, sound is the vibration of air, and it is a kind of wave motion. The propagation of sound wave is faster in hot air and slower in cold air. Therefore regions of air at different temperatures have different refractive indices, just like media with different optical densities. When sound wave propagates in air whose temperature changes with altitude, refraction of air happens. Sound will move towards areas with lower temperatures. In the daytime, when the sun shines the earth, the air near the earth surface is hotter than the air above. Sound waves will be refracted to the sky. On the contrary, in the nighttime, the air near the surface is cooler and sound waves are refracted to the earth surface.

man. it wont let me post a title. anyways..
yay. blog post numero dos. that means #2 in spanish. i said that because this is the second post. who would have thought it? I imagine i look somewhat strange sitting here in my dad's office. I was forced to come up here before i could finish doing my hair. so half of it is curly. and half of it is somewhat straight. sadly, my hot rollers did an awful job and i had to switch to a curling iron which was much better. but then i had to go so i look somewhat strange. but then again, when do i not?
heres a video about how excited i am about the nationals and panama...
so yea. i'm a dork. but i am excited. yay...although my materials for truthquest haven't come yet (the CLEAR part, anyway) so i 'm a little bit stressed about that. but i'm not expecting to make it to round 2, so it doesnt really matter anyway...
so.
tune in next time when i report on...wait. this is not a tv show. last time it was a newspaper, this time its a tv show. whats next? anyways, once again, i should really stop trying to be cool...

the nationals

i must say...
I CANT WAIT FOR THE NATIONALS. talk about exciting! we are leaving Thursday. Dad has meetings on Friday...yay? but i am so excited...
In other news. I got my passport today! i must say I'm rather excited. we also had a 3 1/2 hour Panama training meeting tonight. We got alot of valuable info tonight. The hardest part for me will be not over packing and packing under 50 lbs. and Katie Karlee and I have decided we want to get arrested. I'm not so sure about that, but hey, talk about a conversation starter.
Also, I found Herman when we were sifting through the masses of boxes labeled "Katy's Stuff" for the yard sale. I was beyond elated when I found Herman the Worman. It had been years since I had seen him. i squealed and gave him a big hug. to which he said
Its good to see you again, Katy! But why have you kept me in this musty box so long? you could have gotten me sooner! In the above picture hes enjoying some prime tanning time in the family room lamp. He always was a conceited young worm.
well this has been the Katy Report numero uno. please join us for the next issue...wait. I'm not a newspaper reporter so screw that. just be ready to read my next ultra boring blog about my ultra boring life and my attempt to be ultra cool.
